Coventry City came back to beat ten man Millwall 2-1.

Things are certainly not sunny around the Sky Blues but the rain had stopped and there was sunshine at the Ricoh Arena as City took on Millwall in front of a host of former City players including Peter Barnes, Cyrille Regis, Dave Bennett and Dave Phillips.

Tony Mowbray, who had threatened to drop anyone not trying, named a side which included Ruben Lameiras, Andy Rose and Joe Cole but no Jodi Jones who admitted at the club's weekly press conference that he was light, due to sickness.

With plenty of noise from both sets of supporters in a crowd given as 11,632, Aiden O'Brien had the first effort of the game when he got in a volley which Charles-Cook superbly pushed round for a seventh minute corner.

After the first ejection from the away end in the eighth minute, Millwall had another which the City defence dealt.

Arron Phillips drove wide from 25 yards before O'Brien won another former for the visitors in the 17th minute who had another a minute later.

When that came in, Byron Webster was left all alone six yards out to head firmly into the net.

Steve Morison fired wide before City had the ball in the net through Joe Cole in the 25th minute but the flag was up.

In the 26th minute and Millwall were down to ten men when Shaun Williams was sent off for a heat butt on Lameiras with Lameiras and Morison booked as the hand bags came out and whilst one should not encourage this sort of behaviour, at least it showed that some of the City players were bothered.

Both sides made changes with Vincelot going off and James Maddison replacing him.

City had a corner and then had Fleck have a shot pushed round by Jordan Archer for another corner followed by Rose heading over a free kick.

Maddison fired wide in the first of four minutes added on and did the same seconds later.

With the clouds over head, the temperature dropped for the second half which saw a Ricketts cross met by Lameiras who fired wide in the opening seconds.

City playing a lot better than in their two previous games had Cole fire at Archer and then won a corner in the 50th minute.

Maddison curled in a shot which earned a corner before Marcus Tudgay come on for Sam Ricketts who had taken a couple of knocks in the 55th minute.

O'Brien just missed at the far post against a City side which had Phillips having a good game and Joe Cole playing far better than he did at Wigan.

In the 61st minute, City were level when Phillips played the ball back to John Fleck who beat Archer on his right with a stunning strike from 25 yards out. The City fans were delighted with a group up by the netting in the South Stand particularly enjoying the goal.

Millwall, with only Morison up front had a couple of chances but City were down the other end winning a 67th minute free kick.

As the snow came down, Armstrong fired wide and City attacked again. This time, it was Marcus Tudgay who got down the right and lofted the ball over Archer on his left and into the net to put City 2-1 up with twenty minutes left.

Millwall had a couple of attacks but City were holding them. In order to preserve that, Martin Lorentzson came on for Lameiras for the last six minutes.

Martin hooked over in the 87th minute and two minutes later, Millwall had a corner. Thankfully, the referee did not spot a shirt pull and no penalty was given.

Both sides have more chances but it was City who recorded their fourth win in 2016 and move up to 12th in the table.
