-------------------------------
Coventry City recorded their third successive away victory with a 3-1 win at Colchester.
A reasonably easy journey, although not time wise, to the historic town of Colchester took us to the Council owned Weston Homes Community Stadium.
A smart little ground which allowed the supporters into a stand for a drink and even a rock band living up the pre-game atmosphere, of which there was not a lot due to a small midweek crowd.
City, in their sky blue kit, were unchanged from the team that had beaten Hartlepool so handsomely on Saturday and attacked the far end for the first half.
Good work gave City a corner at the far end and in the 12th minute, James Bailey initially cleared a corner before Anthony Wordsworth fired just over from twenty yards.
Carl Baker dragged wide and McGoldrick had a header blocked by the keeper from a Moussa cross.
Monsieur Edjenguele was in good form early on in the half for the Sky Blues getting his foot in on a couple of occasions.
He was playing his part in a City team that was being closed down by Joe Dunne's side and forced to look for scraps.
James Bailey, worked hard all night, and made a great run in the 27th minute only to give the ball away.
On the half hour, Colchester thought they had taken the lead when a shot deflected off Jabo Ibehre and went past Joe Murphy who went out to remonstrate with the assistant referee who did not have his flag up.
Mr Kettle went over and as he did, the assistant ruled out the goal.
Boosted by this and former City loanee Freddy Sears only hitting the bar, City went up the other end with a wonderful ball from McGoldrick to McSheffrey. A neat cross and there was Frank Moussa to slot home in the 33rd minute for his second goal in consecutive matches.
Three minutes later, City increased their lead even further when William Edjenguele headed in. The assistant on the Main Stand side had his flag up but Mr Kettle went over and awarded the goal to City, much to our delight and the annoyance of the Colchester players.
The home fans, who were friendly and hospitable pre-game, booed off the match officials at the break whilst the City support cheered them off the pitch and back on for the start of the second half.
The booing started early in the second half as City, backed by 408 supporters including a number from East Anglia got the better of the decisions.
That included a 51st minute free kick which McGoldrick fired over at the second attempt.
The home side, were wide open at the back and in the 57th minute, Cyrus Christie went down the right, cut in and just missed the far post before the keeper blocked from the black glove wearing David McGoldrick.
Joe Dunne sent on Clinton Morrison in the 62nd minute to a mixed reception from the City fans.
In the 70th minute, a free kick needlessly given away, gave the U's a lifeline when Tom Eastman was allowed to head in.
The silly fouls continued from a City side which had stopped playing and were under the cosh.
Mark Robins had to replace Gary McSheffrey before he was sent off and in the 77th minute, he did, bringing on Adam Barton, who slotted straight in
Moussa, wasted a good chance with seven minutes left and Murphy made a one hell of a save from Wilson at the other end.
Then came the moment of history when David McGoldrick got through on the right. Could he become the first City player to score in six consecutive away games. The City support collectively held their breath by as cool as you like, McGoldrick slipped the ball past Sulivan and we not only had a moment of history but a third goal which killed off Colchester.
Moussa and Baker were denied by Sulivan in stoppage time as City took the win and gave their fans another night to remember.
