Coventry City drew 0-0 at Chesterfield in a game that will not live long in any one"s memory.
With Coventry City having to make do with the players they were able to obtain during the summer plus Tom Davies on deadline day, the Sky Blues headed off to Chesterfield for a League Two fixture.
Chesterfield, whose stadium was built close to pubs, chip shops etc, is seen as a good day out by City supporters and over eleven hundred tickets were sold to City supporters including some who had flown back from Malta after having seen England and Michael Mifsud last night.
City had Lee Burge back in goal and with Rod McDonald still injured, Tom Davies got his first start wearing the number twelve shirt.
The game was slow to start and it was City who had the first real chance when Marc McNulty fired at Tommy Lee in the 11th minute.
The City support bored of abusing Tim Fisher, needed police protection at Chesterfield station after the game and Dave Boddy, whilst playing with a beach ball watched on as McNulty drove in a shot which Lee dived to his left to beat away for a 15th minute corner.
The lacklustre Vincenti, who clearly looks unhappy playing for Coventry City, headed over and Chesterfield attacked with one shot and Burge coming out to head away another.
McNulty drove wide from range in the 20th minute and a great Jones cross from the right was headed over by Vincenti.
In the 32nd minute of a dire game, Jack Grimmer was booked for a foul from behind after letting his marker get past him. Thankfully, Burge was able to push the resulting free kick on to the woodwork and out for a corner which he diligently was able to push away.
Again, there were Sisu Out chants from the City support, who were heavily filmed by the local police force before Burge had to palm a 42nd minute Dennis shot away following a poor Grimmer back pass.
At half time, there was a man saying about middle age men committing suicide, whilst the half had not been that bad, it was certainly depressing stuff and many of the City support in the away end behind the goal City were now attacking, were sat down.
A 48th minute foul on Jodi Jones brought some to their feet but Jones took it and sent it over the bar, forcing some of the 1400 strong back into their seats.
In the 51st minute, a stunning McNulty shot was pushed onto the bar for a corner which Jones curled in and Lee got a touch to force another corner.
With the help of a drum, the home fans found their voice and they saw Jordan Flores booked whilst some of the City support felt that a female steward's hair looked like astroturf and enjoyed some good natured banter.
In the 59th minute. Jodi Jones, who looked dangerous but delivered nowhere near the amount that he should have, was fouled from behind by Robbie Weir who was immediately shown the red card by the referee.
Weir accused Jones of diving and left the pitch not happy, which the City supporter wasn't when Marc McNulty putting the free kick over the bar.
Chesterfield, managed by former City loanee Gary Caldwell, won a 63rd minute corner before both sides made a 66th minute change with Tony Andreu coming on for Stuart Beavon, despite many City supporters wanting Vincenti to be replaced.
Marc McNulty, who today well served by the hard working Doyle and Liam Kelly missed a one on one firing wide of the far post in the 72nd minute and four minutes later, Vincenti had the ball in the net with a header but the flag was up and he was immediately replaced by Duckens Nazon.
McNulty headed wide with the goal at his mercy and drew more groans from the City support who watched as Nazon fired over and Chesterfield had a player booked for time-wasting in a game that was clearly a waste of time, money and effort for the 5,164 inside the Proact Stadium.
Six minutes were added on but that failed to produced a goal and a bore draw it was.
City were again booed off and if those players who stormed off, want the booing to stop, then they are going to have to start putting away their chances and winning matches in what looks like a poor division.
