LINCOLN CITY LADIES 1-0 COVENTRY CITY LADIES BY KEV MONKS

Coventry City Ladies hopes of remaining in the WPL Northern Division disappeared after losing to a late goal at Lincoln City.

On a pitch at Lincoln Moorlands passed fit just before kick off, after a torrential downpour and hail storm, City lost their influential captain Maria Cartwright to a back injury with only eighteen minutes gone.

Chances on a greasy surface were limited but Julia Marshall fired a long range effort into the side netting before Michelle Hickmott sent a speculative lob over the head of Imps keeper Nicola Hobbs but agonisingly inches wide of the far post.

Rod Wilson's team forced a number of corners on a night when nothing was going right for the Sky Blues and struck a post in the 68th minute through a low Adele Jackson drive.

Coventry looked good for a point but seven minutes from time, Sara Priestly broke through and sealed City's fate by chipping the ball over Kelly Cartwright and into the far corner of the net.

The Sky Blues have two home matches left starting with Stockport County at Coventry Sphinx on Sunday before playing Wolves on April 27th.
