CRYSTAL PALACE RESERVES 3-0 COVENTRY CITY RESERVES BY KEV MONKS
City Reserves were beaten by an experienced Crystal Palace side at Selhurst Park.
Alan Cork gave an outing to Academy keeper Jonny Tuffey who and included Danny Bunce, a trialist formerly with West Ham
in his starting line up with the Eagles giving a run out to Tony Popovic,Danny Butterfield and Neil Shipperly.
On a freezing cold night at Selhurst Park and was by a dozen City supporters who were told by the teamsheet that the weather was cold, the South Londoners had the early pressure winning a third minute corner.
The Sky Blues' first chance came in the tenth minute when Craig Reid controlled the ball before lofting a shot over from sixteen yards.
Palace went ahead in the 14th minute when Sean Cooney lost possession to Wayne Andrews who took the ball on his right foot before drilling a shot past Tuffey from the edge of the area.
Neil Wood's free kicks were starting to cause concern for the home defence. In the 20th minute, a place kick from Wood was pushed round for a corner by Julian Speroni as Ben Mackey dived in.
With Wood taking free kicks, Craig Reid was tasked with corners and one with five minutes from the end of the half was nodded over by Wood.
Palace increased their lead in the 43rd minute when Joonas Koikka burst past Cooney and flicked the ball out to the right for Vassillis Lakis who cut inside before slamming an unstoppable shot high into the net.
Cooney had been struggling throughout the first period and he was replaced by Rikki Bains at the break.
Palace also made an interval change with Sandor Torghelle being introduced and within four minutes of the restart, Torghelle had scored, tapping in a Lakis cross which Tuffey could only get a hand to.
Although experience was telling on the City side, Coventry almost pulled one back when Neil Wood struck a Reid corner against the post in the 53rd minute.
Right back Andy Hall limped off with a leg injury on the hour mark just after referee Mr Desmond had flashed a yellow card at Darren Powell for fouling Ben Mackey.
With fifteen minutes left, Cork made his third change bringing on Liam Davis for Anthony Barry.
Isaac Osbourne had a fine game in midfield and caused such annoyance to the opposition that Popovic and Torghelle were cautioned for stopping the Birmingham born midfielder from trying to get City going forward.
Ben Mackey was cautioned late on in what was a frustrating performance by the Sky Blues.
