The Points Keep Coming

DERBY COUNTY 1-1 COVENTRY CITY BY KEV MONKS

Coventry City picked up another point from a 1-1 draw at Derby County

The Sky Blues arrived at Derby to play a side who like ourselves have as much off-the field activity as they do on it. The appointment of the mainly unknown Phil Brown plus the sale of Grzegorz Rasiak has not been well received by Derby supporters who were handing "board out" banners to home supporters as they made their way into Pride Park.

Adams made one change from the team that had drawn with Reading with Robert Page replaced by Matt Heath and welcomed Stephen Hughes back with a place on the bench.

The Rams who included former City player Marc Edworthy in their starting eleven were ahead after 13 minutes when a Morten Bisgaard shot from outside the area, took a wicked deflection off Richard Shaw and flew past the wrong footed Stephen Bywater.

Both sides won a corner each before Gary McSheffrey was cautioned for seeking to gain an unfair advantage when he went over in the penalty area.

City were starting to create chances and in the 28th minute, Dele Adebola headed wide from a Marcus Hall cross.

However, football is a changing game and in the 29th minute,Richard Shaw was stretchered off after a very nasty collision. Shaw required a spine board and was eventually carried off, some seven minutes later on a stretcher with special attention being given to his neck. The 36 year old was given a standing ovation by the 800 City supporters and it was later revealed that Shaw had concussion but x-rays would reveal more.

Andy Whing came on for Shaw and at the start of the second half,Andy Morrell replaced Wilo Flood for City attired in their away shirts and home shorts.

In the 52nd minute,Paul Thirlwell was booked for a trip on Michael Doyle by the Long Buckby based referee.

Four minutes later, the away end was rocking (and I do mean rocking) when a lovely through ball from Marcus Hall found Dele Adebola. City's leading scorer was under pressure from a defender and the keeper but was still able to poke the ball into the net.

Adams made his final change straight after, with Neil Wood coming on for Matt Heath. Wood went in at left back with Hall switching the centre of defence and the former Manchester United player was straight in making some good tackles and threading one well weighted pass forward.

City were now resolute in defence and were backed by keeper Stephen Bywater who made three good saves in a two minute spell as the home side threatened.

In the 72nd minute and with the stewards piling into a City fan who was ejected by the local stazi for daring to lit up a cigarette or another reason (depending on which steward you spoke to),Dean Holdsworth became the second former City player in the Derby side when he came on for Tudgay.

Holdsworth whose spell on loan at Highfield Road was not successful by any means, was roundly abused as much as the stewards.

With eleven to go,Bywater pushed one over the bar and then collected a low Holdsworth drive.

Derby went close at the end but a draw was a fair result.
